So, here are pics from our church paintball outing.  My apologies for the delay, S-man.

12:45pm, at orientation.  Artemas "Prime" Wang in the foreground, arguing with his mask:
Artemas: "Now you listen to ME.  You do as I say, not the other way around!"

Minsu "Mass Destruction" Kim with Geneson "Devastator" Lee (?) in the background.  Minsu's sad b/c Geneson stole his lunch money.

Artemas still arguing with his mask...

Our buddy Steve "the Slayer" Joh wondering if he should shoot me, Sally "Rampage the Third" Hyun and "Terminator" Hyung in the background.  "Hyung, put your mask down!!"

Minsu taking aim... for me to poop on.

James "Batman" Lee, comin to get the cameraman: "No pictures! NO PICTURES!!".

Hyung again after one of the games.  On the battlefield, COMBAT is the only language.  On the battlefield, there is no need for perfect English. :)

Picture I took WHILE playing paintball.  After this, I decided to just focus on taking pictures..

Sally with Jonny "Annihilator" Wang taking some poor soul out with a quickness.

Minsu daydreaming about what to have for lunch in the middle of combat while Brian "Beat You Down With A Tire Iron" Lee shouts: "Minsu!! Minsu!!! What're you DOIN'??!?  Return fire!! RETURN FIRE OH C'MON!!!"

Johnny Boy "Man" Kim peeking around a bunker to cap a Berean in the butt.

z99665056

Brian laying down some coverfire for Minsu, who's still daydreaming...

Melissa "Tornado" Wong smokin' some guy...

... and Derrick "Iceman" Tseng is about to shoot Melissa but then realizes she's on his team...

Art seeing if he can shoot Henry across the field...

Jonny and John taking a break between games.

Jonny showing us his battle scars.

z99666512

Jonny again with battle scars.

z99666581

Matt Chong leaving us a litle something to remember him by.

Derrick and Jonny looking at Matt goin: "Daaang, I'm never doing this again.."

Matt Chong throwing signs...

Everyone throwing signs (except Minsu. He's yelling out his gangsta sign)

And everyone looking pretty normal.

And finally, Geneson giving us his hard, gangsta stare that will strike cold fear into the hearts of bloods and crips across America.  (and James trying to drink his water but wondering why it's not working.  "Brother, you gotta lift it up over your face... work with gravity."  James: "Me not understand."

It was a lot of fun, everyone.  Thanks.

PORCO ROSSO

Set in postwar Italy, the story revolves around a pilot who spends most of the time kickin' it (like so) ...

... Then charging out of his rocky enclave in response to a distress beacon somewhere in the Adriatic Sea (thusly)...

... And finally coasting off into the sunset after a day of heroism and random adventure.

At the time, this Miyazaki film left such an impression on me, I still find myself remembering certain scenes from time to time.  The story follows a steady pace with themes like friendship, love, duty, honor, and free-spiritedness (if that's a word) all throughout the subplots and flashbacks.  The director/writer designed all his aircraft in the movie, probably deriving their general look from WWI Western European warplanes; these designs, however, appear fundamentally different from any actual planes under close inspection (the fuselage arrangements on Miyazaki's designs are both familiar and technically original, for example).  Okay, so there you have it: Porco Rosso.

Life's been pretty good: I've gotten in touch with some old friends I haven't seen in a while, and it feels good reconnecting.  Went to a wedding this weekend and had some good food.  Saw a friend's newborn and played with his nephew and niece.  Had a brief conversation with a friend I thought I lost contact with some time ago.  Had some of the chupacabras over for hot drinks, snacks, and lengthy fireside conversations about career, faith, legalism, godliness, alcohol abuse, getting in shape, pirates, and relationships.  Did my taxes, and went shopping at Barnes for a book.  Man, I've got the munchies - it's 1:30 in the morning, I'm half-asleep, and I've got the munchies.  But there's nothing... the guys last night cleaned me out.  It's life's minor crises like these that just confounds me from time to time.

For crying out loud, there's seriously nothing to eat...
